Two Explanations of Symbolic Anthropology

符号人类学大致有两种,一种是索绪尔式符号人类学(symbolic anthropology),是二元对立的;一种是皮尔士式符号人类学(semiotic anthropology),是三元对转的。这里重点讲皮尔士式符号人类学,尤其是象似、标指、象征,分别指物感物觉、事物相指、价值意义,这三元是“地天通”的关系,交融不分,避免了符号断裂。

There are two kinds of semiotic anthropology.One is the dualistic Saussurean,known as symbolic anthropology.The other is the triadic Peircean,known as semiotic anthropology.The focus of this study is on the Peircean semiotic anthropology that involves largely,through not limited to,the likeness,indexing,and symbolism,which refer to the sense of matter,interconnection,and the meaning of values,respectively.The Peircean Thirdness unblocks “communication between heaven and earth”,with its mutuality,and thus avoids the rapture between semiotic elements.
