China’s Ministry of Education encourages colleges and universities to set up household management major. This news has aroused widespread concern in the society. As a new industry, the household management service industry can help prefer job security, protect people’s livelihood and liberate more people from poverty. However, skilled practitioners in the market are in short supply. Under such circumstances, setting up household management major is becoming necessary. In fact, the major has a long history of development and distinctive culture in the US, the UK, Korea, Japan and the Philippines. Now China is ready to join them and go on this road. But it’s not an easy thing on account of people’s prejudice against household management service and their stereotypes of domestic workers. There is still a long way to go.
