The War Metaphor in Political Speeches——The Case of Macron’s 2018 International French Day Address

本文从概念隐喻的角度,分析了法国总统马克龙在2018年国际法语日关于法语、法语区以及语言多元化的演讲中所使用的战争隐喻,包括战争隐喻的关键词汇、语篇功能、选择战争隐喻的原因等,阐释了战争与语言竞争间的相似性,从另一个角度探索了马克龙使用战争隐喻的深层原因以及法国政府对外推广法语的目的与动机。

From the perspective of cognitive metaphor, this article analyzes the war metaphors used by French president Emmanuel Macron in his speech on International French Day 2018. including their key words and discourse, function and the rationales for their use. It tries to explore the similarities between war and the competition among languages, and thus highlights, from another angle, the deep-level rationales for war metaphor use and the purpose and motivation of the French government for French language promotion.
