摘要
Ionic polymerizations, including anionic and cationic polymerizations, constitute one of the most important sectors of chain growth polymerizations. The discovery of "living polymers" by Szwarc in anionic polymerization ushered in an era of tailoring molecular structure of polymers. The idea of reversible deactivation of the propagating species in cationic polymerization in order to control the product molecular weight pioneered the research in controlled polymerization by using specific reversibly deactivating agent. Today, these methodologies are widely used not only for laboratory synthesis of polymers but also in rubber industry.
