With the development of economic globalization, the economic ties between countries are becoming closer and closer, and cultural exchanges are deepening. As an international language, English is not only a tool for communication, but also a link between countries and people. Listening and speaking ability is a very important part of English language learning, and it is also the key to evaluate the quality of English learning. However, the current situation of college English teaching is worrying and the teaching effect is unsatisfactory. On this basis, this paper will analyze the current situation of college public English teaching, according to the characteristics and needs of college students, construct effective English teaching strategies, lay the foundation for improving students’ English listening and speaking ability.
