摘要
在论述哲人-统治者之培养方案的《理想国》中,柏拉图反复强调数学在此方案中居于核心环节和关键地位;数学课程的目标是"善"的知识,它是人们通往后者的必经途径。但在他处,柏拉图却对数学的价值、数学研究对象的本体论地位及其与"善"的关系做出了不同的论述。通过对柏拉图文本及其相关古今阐释进路的研读、分析可知,与将数学作为一门技术性和专门化的知识学科来发展的主流思路不同,柏拉图并不认为数学仅有外在价值,只是获得"善"知识的一种手段,而是坚信数学知识与具有价值负载特性的智慧之间有着深刻并相互交错的联系。柏拉图的这些看法是否自洽,它们带给后人怎样的启示,都值得认真考察。
In the Republic,which discusses the cultivation program of philosopher – rulers,Plato repeatedly emphasizes that mathematics plays a key role in the program. The goal of a mathematical curriculum is knowledge of the Good,and mathematical curriculum is a necessary path to the latter. However,in other places,Plato made different statements on the value of mathematics,the ontological status of the objects of mathematics research and their relationship with the Good. Through the study and analysis of Plato’s text and its related ancient and modern approaches,we can see that differing from the mainstream approach to develop mathematics as a technical and specialized knowledge discipline,Plato doesn’t think mathematics only has extrinsic value,just a means to the knowledge of the Good,but believes that there is a profound connection between mathematical knowledge and value–laden wisdom. Whether Plato’s views are self–consistent,and what kind of enlightenment they bring to future generations,all deserve careful examination.
