In Sing, Unburied, Sing , Jesmyn Ward delineates the rural custom, social scenes and racial relation in American South, dissects the anxiety and despair in racist milieu and reveals the absurdity of racial prejudice. He blazed a new trail in the depiction of interpersonal isolation, dealing with the child isolation, parent-son isolation and brother-sister isolation. In addition, he presents the psychic alienation of modern society from the angles of self-repression, psychic loss and friendship distortion, exploring the emotional crises resulting from frustrated expectation and solipsist complex and unveiling the social tragedy in which people are forced into a self-closed space by a bad personality. Finally, he discloses the existential problems from such aspects as meditation on death, identity crisis and a pursuit of actual self, conveying his true concern and compassion for human destiny in the modern world.
