Utilizing VST for Measurement and Analysis

运用Nation最新的词汇量测量工具(Vocabulary Size Test—VST),对一般本科院校非英语专业的114名大二学生进行了词汇量测试。结果表明,学生对两千词级内高频词认知度较高;对三千到五千词级内的词掌握不牢;对五千词级以上的词认知度严重匮乏。方差分析显示,女生词汇量显著多于男生,而两个不同理工科专业之间学生的词汇量无显著差异。

This study measured the vocabulary size of 114 students of non-English majors utilizing Nation s latest vocabulary size measuring tool,Vocabulary Size Test(VST).The results indicated that the first high-frequency 2,000 vocabularies were generally recognized,the 3,000 to 5,000 word-level words were not well-kept,and there was a serious lack of recognition of words above 5,000 word-level.ANOVA showed that the vocabulary size of girls is significantly larger than that of boys,but there s no difference between two science and technology majors.
