Regulatory T cells (Tregs) are important cells for maintaining peripheral immune tolerance, which are key T cell subsets that prevent autoimmunity. When immune regulation is abnormal, T cells are continuously activated, resulting in ANCA-associated vasculitides. In this review, we will discuss the current knowledge on the role of Tregs and phenotype and mechanism of action in the AAV pathogenesis and how aberrations in their immune regulatory properties might contribute to disease progression.
