Dialogue with Tradition:Oakeshott’s View of Political Education

现代政治中理性主义信仰的维系依靠技术理性的霸权,它试图对实践妄加支配,导致"政治教育"在概念上的污名化和实质上的去传统化。欧克肖特追本溯源,认为政治活动的本质是追寻传统的"暗示",政治教育的本质是"学会与传统对话"。与当今政治普遍依托技术知识和技能训练不同,欧克肖特力图造就的"受过政治教育"的心智,需要以"实践知识"为知识基础、以政治研究为方法基础、以"公民联合"为道德基础,在学校教育中承续政治传统的经验、启迪政治实践的智慧。

The rationalist belief in modern politics relies on the hegemony of technological rationality,which tries to dominate practice,and leads to the stigmatization of "political education" in concept and the de-traditionalization in essence. Oakeshott believes that the essence of political activity is to pursue the traditional "intimation",and the essence of education is to "learn to dialogue with the tradition". Today’s politics generally rely on technical knowledge and skill drill. In contrast,Oakeshott tries to cultivate a political educated mind,which requires "practical knowledge" as the basis of knowledge,political research as the method,and "civic association" as the moral basis,so as to inherit the experience of political tradition and enlighten the wisdom of political practice in public education.
