二百年来中外学者连篇累牍的图腾研究著述虽然众说纷纭,但无不认为图腾文化只是原始社会才有的特殊现象。这些研究大多只是狭义的图腾与图腾文化,而广义的图腾与图腾文化则是社会发展史中普遍存在的现象,不同文化时空必然形成不同的图腾与图腾文化。中华文明与西方文明在全部文化发展史中普遍存在的广义图腾与图腾文化及其在不同文化时空的具体形态即是明证。

Both Chinese and overseas scholars have been studying the totem more than 200 years and produced many different literatures. The scholars conceive that the totem culture is a special phenomenon only in primitive society. In my opinion,these studies what they research are totem and totem culture in a narrow sense,and the totem and totem culture are a phenomenon in all the human history in a broad sense. Different totem and totem culture form in different time and space. The Chinese civilization and western civilization have different totem and totem culture.
