Animal food can provide human beings with abundant protein, fat, minerals and vitamins, which are indispensable parts of human diet. However, due to the widespread use of drugs in animal husbandry, drug residues in animal food increased significantly and even exceeded the standard, which caused high healthy risks to consumers. The sources and causes of drug residues in animal food are summarized, the potential hazards and influence in different aspects are stated, the detection methods of residues are introduced, then the strategies of prevention and control are concluded. In addition, present situation of drug residues in animal food at home and abroad is also summarized, and the development of animal food in the future is prospected.
