Contemporary China’s Diplomacy: 70 Years of Exploration and Enlightenment

独立自主原则奠定了当代中国外交的基础。中国外交宗旨从"反对霸权主义、维护世界和平"到"维护世界和平、促进共同发展"的变迁,改革开放与中国外交形成良性互动,是对时代主题认识从"战争与革命"到"和平与发展"逐步转变相适应的变化过程。新时代"推动构建人类命运共同体"成为中国外交的核心理念。历经70年的当代中国外交表明:与日俱进和外交理论创新对中国外交实践起到了引领作用;把握好反霸和维持同霸权国正常关系之间的分寸至关重要;结伴而不结盟的伙伴关系拓展了中国外交空间;中国必须有自己特色的大国外交。

The principle of independence provides a foundation for contemporary China’s diplomacy. The shift of the purpose of China’s diplomacy from "opposing hegemonism and safeguarding world peace" to "maintaining world peace and promoting common development" and the benign interactions between China’s foreign policy and its reform and opening up policy are in line with China’s changing perception of and gradual adaptation to the themes of the times from "war and revolution" to "peace and development." In the new era, the purpose of promoting the building of a community with a shared future for the mankind has become the core concept of China’s diplomacy. Seventy years of China’s diplomacy shows that the progress and innovation of diplomatic theory have played a leading role in China’s diplomatic practice;it is of vital importance to strike a balance between fighting against hegemony and maintaining normal relations with hegemonic countries;a new path of external relations characterized by partnership rather than alliance has expanded China’s diplomatic space;China must pursue a major country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics.
