Residents' committees in Beijing were an important subject when I took photos on the theme of hutong (lane). I began learning photography in the early 1980s. I remember clearly one day when I went to the Xiyinsi Hutong, near Tian'anmen Square, and saw two old women sitting at the entrance of the hutong.
