Accelerating population aging imposes great pressure on elderly care in China. The social changes along with the rapid demographic shift in China in the last three decades have pushed the traditional familial support systems to a breaking point. The elderly and their families are in great need of reliable and affordable services as external support. The importance of home care and community care services has lately been recognized in government policies,but shortage of manpower and funding hinders the services development. Through the technological innovation of the blockchain,a low-cost and credible environment can be created,the potential of communities can be stimulated,and the pressure of population can be turned into a human resource advantage. The development of a new model of time banking based on the blockchain is expected to be a beneficial supplement for elderly care,especially for the development of home-based care.
