The Common Characteristics of Characters’ Cultural Identity in Joseph Conrad’s Novels

约瑟夫·康拉德是19世纪末20世纪初英国最伟大的作家之一,他的一生带有不可磨灭的身份认同的印记,并且深刻地映射在文学创作中。透过康拉德作品中身份认同的主题性呈现,探讨各种不同人物在文化冲突中的身份认同共性——自我认同、群体认同及身份认同的混合性和矛盾性,可以更好地理解康拉德“他者”境遇下的身份写作,从而凸显其文学创作的重要价值和意义。

Joseph Conrad is one of the greatest British writers in the late 19th century and early 20th century.Joseph Conrad’s whole life was marked by the indelible cultural identity which was deeply reflected in his literary creation.In view of the thematic presentation of cultural identity,this paper explores the identity commonness of different characters in cultural conflicts in Conrad’s works,namely the mixture and contradiction of self-identity,group identity and identity,which can help us to understand Conrad’s identity writing under the situation of“the other”,thus highlighting the important value and significance of Conrad’s literary creation.
