Grounding represents the process of anchoring an entity in the context of the speech event.Influenced by the consciousness of grounding, those students, referring to the priority principle of profiled concept, can impose the focus on the conceptual space of the reality. The students are inclined to adopt the strategy of definite grounding and designate the conceived entity by the proximal predication.Since the students cannot fully understand the semantic restrictions in proximal and distal predications,it is easier for them to makes mistakes when using the proximal ones which have more restrictions. In addition, the students overuse quantificational grounding predications. They fail to recognize the temporal elements in the relevant predications and cannot effectively select the reference point for different modal verbs. This results in the mistakes when the students use modal verbs to realize grounding operation.
