Since the concept of“feminism”was proposed, the issue of“gender equality”has been mentioned, discussed and defined in numerous literary works.Gilman’s“Herland”is undoubtedly one of the representative works of the first feminist movement, and thus fully embodies the understanding and assumption of“gender equality”of radical feminism in the early 20th century. However, while this work seems to depict a beautiful fantasy of“gender equality”,it actually shackles women in a deeper sense because of its feminist overcorrection.Through the textual analysis of“Herland”,we will reveal the alienation of the concept of“feminism”under the beautiful illusion of feminist Utopia created by Gilman.
