On Wang Pang’s View of "Easiness Based on Time"

王雱《南华真经新传》以儒学家的视角对庄子思想进行了阐述与发挥。他将"时"引入到阐释庄子的逍遥义中,把郭象"适性逍遥"演义成为"适时逍遥",认为有为之人、无为之人可根据不同之"时"选择不同通往逍遥的方法,进而说明在性与命这层概念上存在不同程度的逍遥。王雱借对庄子逍遥义的改造,试图探讨宋儒关注的性命这一时代问题,借机提出个人关于尽性到至命的修养之路,为有为之人开辟一条新的逍遥捷径,这不仅为以儒解庄注入了新的活力,还具有很强的现实政治意义。

New Biography of the Nanhua Sutra wrote by Wang Pang states and develops the thought of Zhuangzi through the perspective of Confucianism. He introduces "time" into the interpretation of Zhuangzi's thought of easiness, turning the idea of "easiness based on personality" raised by Guo Xiang into "easiness based on time". He believes that people of action and inaction could select different ways to get easiness according to different time, further to explain that there is easiness of different degrees on the conception of personality and destiny. Wang Pang is trying to discuss the problem of destiny and personality which is of very high concern of the Confucianism in Song Dynasty through his transformation. He put forward the individual's self-cultivation from personality to destiny, developing a shortcut of getting easiness for the people of action. It is of strong practical political significance besides injecting vitality into the interpretation of Zhuangzi through Confucianism.
