Semiotics is the study of meaning, and the eco-semiotic focuses on the formation of meaning in eco-literature.To reveal the epistemological significance of signs in eco-literary text,it is necessary to investigate the representation of signalizing and reconstruct its theoretical foundation. This paper analyzes Margaret Atwood’s novels from three aspects such as visual rhetoric, misplacing of meaning and revision of signs. We find that visual rhetoric directly shows the zero signification relation of eco-signs and reveals its epistemological selection.Misplacing of meaning leads signs away from the original context, realizing the re-contextualization of reference and thus constructing new categories and semantic networks of signs.Revision of signs results in the meaning-shift of signs from the original text to the target one as well as the inter-mapping between different elements in the new and old sign worlds, hence uncovering the cognitive presupposition implied in the textual signs.
