Post-Translation Studies of Romeo and Juliet in China

从埃德温·根茨勒提出的后翻译研究角度,对威廉·莎士比亚的经典戏剧作品《罗密欧与朱丽叶》进行分析,阐述了原作本身所包含的翻译性质,并且揭示了20世纪初中国的社会文化环境是该作品在中国翻译界以及普通群众中备受欢迎的重要原因。此外,研究发现该作品通过与中国的各种艺术形式相互融合,促进了不同文化的沟通交流与融合创新。这一个案研究彰显了翻译对于文化建构的重要意义,同时说明了后翻译研究的必要性及重要性。

From the angle of the post-translation studies proposed by Edwin Gentzler, this paper analyzes William Shakespeare’s classical play-Romeo and Juliet. It makes some analysis to the translation elements of the source book, and reveals the reasons why the translation activities of it were so popular in the early 20 th century and why it is so favorable up to now. It can be found that the integration between the cultural elements of this play and different forms of the Chinese arts has allowed the cultural communication among different cultures. The case study clarifies the important significance of translation to shape the features of each country’s culture and the necessities of the post-translation studies.
