3.The instrument The questionnaire started with a demographics section from which the above information was retrieved.Following this,participants were asked to respond to an item on their attitude towards their first modern FL(as some students learned two FLs simultaneously),on a 5-point Likert scale.Because very few reported‘very unfavourable’attitudes,this level was merged with the next level,i.e.‘unfavourable’attitudes(n=18),followed by‘neutral’(n=22)‘,favourable’(n=80)and‘very favourable’(n=69)attitudes.Mean score on the Likert scale was 3.1(SD=0.9).
