The cultivation of calligraphers needs many aspects, but the ultimate cultivation of calligraphers is philosophy.Calligraphy and other Chinese tangible arts all originate from philosophy, but calligraphy is especially abstract showing more “metaphysical” characteristics, and closer to the scope of philosophy.Taoism is the most artistic philosophy;Zen philosophy has a high nourishing value for calligraphy artists;Confucian philosophy has a low artistic temperament, but its broad mind and magnificent integrity have a great impact on Chinese calligraphers.Although the three philosophies are different, for Chinese calligraphers, the best way is to be able to blend them.
