英语通用语背景下变形习语的身份建构功能研究

On the Identity-building Function of Variable Idioms in English as a Lingua Franca Communication

随着全球化趋势的加强,英语由外语变为通用语,显现了迥异于英语作为本族语的语言特征,这触发了人们对通用语新创特征的重新考量。本研究从变形习语切入,主要考究英语作为通用语框架下语言使用者自我身份的话语建构。这类习语的身份建构主要发挥三大效用:团体内身份的强化、人际身份的操控及文化身份的指示。本文对于英语通用语背景下身份思想的重构及我国英语教学与研究有启示作用。

With the cementing of globalization,English has shaded into a lingua franca(LF)and distinctive linguistic features have emerged,which ignites the re-examination of those novel features.Focusing on variable idioms,this paper visits the discourse construction of identity among users in ELF setting.The results demonstrate that variable idioms serve such important identityoriented functions as highlighting in-group membership,manipulating interpersonal identity and projecting cultural identity.This study sheds light on the review of identity and the instruction and research of English in ELF settings.
