The development of PE teaching evaluation research determines the development of PE teaching evaluation, which is very important for promoting the management of PE teaching and the reform of national school PE. This paper reviews the development of physical education teaching evaluation research in China since the reform and opening up by using the research methods of literature and historical analysis, reflects on the shortcomings of physical education teaching evaluation research in the development, and looks forward to the trend of physical education teaching evaluation research in China. According to the trend of the reform of the national education system, the research on the evaluation of physical education teaching in the past 40 years of reform and opening up is divided into four periods. It is believed that the research on the evaluation of physical education teaching has achieved certain results in terms of content, method and system, but at the same time, there are still some problems such as relatively lack of symbolic research, theorization of research methods and relatively low conversion rate of research results. Looking forward to the future, the research on physical education teaching evaluation in China should: 1 ) integrate multi - disciplinary knowledge to promote more symbolic research;2) use new evaluation concepts to guide the updating of research methods;3) strengthen the integration of evaluation theory and practice.
