周贻白：戏曲文献的整体性审视与剧作文本的系统化解读

周贻白很注意戏曲文献的搜集和著录,尤其是戏曲文献目录的重新梳理,他下了很大功夫,所做的不仅是前贤没有做过的,而且是时彦也没有做过的。周贻白的戏曲目录增加了皮黄剧的内容,这是姚燮、王国维以至傅惜华、庄一拂都没有的设想,在明清杂剧传奇的阅读方面用力尤勤,这也是他不同于其他曲家的一个特点,他没有撰写过元杂剧的专著,却留下了明清杂剧传奇方面的著作。除了校注戏曲作品,周贻白还很注重戏曲理论的普及和推广,而《戏曲演唱论著辑释》是第一部以元明清三代保存下来的戏曲演唱资料为对象的注重文献解读的曲学著作。此外,他还有一些从戏曲文献角度出发的单篇论文,也很留意出土戏剧文物、喜欢与著名演员往来、观看地方戏演出并探究各种曲艺创作和表演规律。
