武汉学界与商界在五四运动中的互动

Interactions Among Academic and Commercial Circles in Wuhan During the May 4th Movement

北京五四运动的消息传到武汉后,学界作为先锋队伍立即响应,举行了大规模的集会、游行、演讲等活动,商界也较早地表明了反帝态度。学界对商界的支持寄予厚望,持续呼吁和联合商界共同进行斗争。在运动的中后期,武汉商界举行的抵货运动和罢市活动在保护学生、给当局施压等方面发挥了重要作用。在此期间,学界与商界有着诸多交集与互动,并保持了较强默契,对武汉地区反帝爱国运动的开展和结局产生了直接影响。

After news of the May 4th Movement in Beijing spread to Wuhan, the pioneering academic circles immediately responded, held large-scale assemblies, parades, speeches and other activities, and commercial circles revealed their “anti-imperialism” attitudes as well. Academic circles had great expectations about support from the commercial circles, and they continuously appealed to unite with the commercial circles to carry out the struggle. During the mid and late periods, the boycotts of Japanese goods and the strikes launched by the Wuhan commercial circles played an important role in protecting the students and putting pressure on the government. During this period, there were many interactions among the academic and commercial circles and they maintained a strong tacit understanding, which had a direct impact on the development and result of the anti-imperialism and patriotism movements in Wuhan.
