托尼·莫里森的第11部小说《天佑儿童》从家庭空间、工作空间和个人空间展现了种族主义、肤色权利和消费文化对现代黑人女性自我身份的破坏性影响:家庭空间沦为种族操演下的幽闭空间,造成了个体身份的断裂;消费文化主导的工作空间物化了个体,使其获得虚假的主体构建;以公寓为代表的个人空间实质是消费文化在私人空间内的延伸,构成了幽闭自我的另一重空间。在空间的流动中,莫里森探讨了深黑肤色女性走出幽闭空间、超越异化、重构自我的途径,揭开了空间与身份建构的互动关系。
The eleventh novel God Help the Child by Toni Morrison reveals the destructive influence of racism,color privilege and consumer culture on contemporary black women's self-identity from the perspectives of home space,work space and personal space.The home space is reduced to the tight space under the race practice,resulting in the breakage of the individual identity;the work space dominated by consumer culture materializes the individuals and makes them obtain false subject construction;the personal space represented by Condo is the extension of consumer culture in private space and constitutes another tight space for individual self.In the flow of spaces,Morrison explores the ways for dark-skinned women to go out of the tight spaces,transcend alienation and reconstruct themselves,thus uncovering the interactive relationship between space and identity construction.
