The Inheritance and Development of Guange Style——A Critique of Pan Linggao’s Calligraphy

潘龄皋是雄安新区走出来的中国现当代知名书法家,在京津冀地区影响甚广。一是由于其翰林出身,曾任甘肃省长;二是因其坚守民族大义,风骨峻峭;三是其书法艺术根植传统,独具面貌。梳理潘龄皋的生平、书法艺术及传播影响,深入解读其书法的时代面貌和艺术特征,为雄安新区文化研究贡献一点力量。

As an eminent calligrapher in modern and contemporary China, Pan Linggao, who came from Xiongan New Area, was influential in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. Three factors may contribute to his fame. Firstly, his reputation rested on his identity as a member of Imperial Academy (Hanlin) and the governor of Gansu Province. Secondly, it was also because he adhered to nationalism and his own moral principles. Thirdly, the art of his writing was rooted in tradition and unique in his own way. This paper makes a survey of Pan Linggao’s life, art of writing and its spread and impacts, analyzing the artistic features and spirit of time reflected in his calligraphy, in the hope that this may render any help to the culture study of Xiongan New Area.
