The transformation of former mining territories into new livable spaces is a long-standing challenge in Europe of more topicality than ever. The key question of unbroken relevance is: How do we design sustainably the great post-mining transformation in space and for society? We still need more reflection s and d iscu ssion s on this question. This thematic issue constitutes a great opportunity to do so. When compiling the booklet, we thus pursued particularly two ambitions: firstly, to encourage learning by comparing projects of design;secondly, to sensitise for the interdependency of local post-mining designs and regional approaches to transformation.
