Gao Huan (高欢)’s Thought on Ethnic Relations

“胡化”是中国古代民族关系、民族文化和边疆史地研究的重要内容和视角。高欢是“胡化”的代表性人物,融汉族文化与少数民族文化于一身。作者认为高欢民族关系思想主要由招怀远夷、消灭山胡和杂用夷夏等三大部分构成。招怀远夷思想主要包括“北怀蠕蠕”、招纳吐谷浑和招纳阿至罗等三方面内容。消灭山胡思想是在山胡越来越嚣张的背景下、在系统研究总结历代治理山胡经验教训基础上形成的,并在实践中不断完善。“杂用夷夏”思想及实践,是典型的实用主义,主要是想得到汉族和少数民族各方面的支持和拥戴。

Huhua(胡化) is an important subject and perspective in the study of China’s ancient ethnic relations, ethnic cultures and frontier history and geography.Gao Huan is a representative figure of Huhua, which integrates Han culture and minority culture.The author holds that Gao Huan’s thought of ethnic relations mainly consists of three parts: calling and pacifying ethnic minorities in the distance, eliminating Shanhu(山胡) and choosing people of all ethnicities for service.The thought of calling and pacifying ethnic minorities in the distance mainly includes calling and pacifying Ruru in the north, and Tuyuhun, Azhiluo.The idea of eliminating Shanhu is formed on the basis of systematically studying and summarizing the experiences and lessons of the past dynasties’ management of Shanhu in the background of Shanhu becoming more and more arrogant.The idea and practice of choosing people of all ethnicities for services was typical pragmatism, mainly to get support from the Han and minority ethnicities in all aspects.
