In Han Shaogong's first root-seeking novelReturning , his narrative model of "returning home and seeking roots" has always aroused intensive concern. The novel adopts unreliable narrative techniques and proposes unreliable descriptions from Fellen. Through analyzing Fellen’s three narrative types,"unreliable narrative on the fact/event axis","unreliable narrative on the ethic/evaluation axis" and "unreliable narrative on the knowledge-based / perceptual axis", we can find the novel’s narrator inReturning is not completely reliable. The use of unreliable narration in the novel highlights the theme of the work: although the educated youth is lost on their way to seek roots, they have not given up their firm determination to realize their values.
