Through analyses on the fonns and appearance contexts in the divination inscriptions, this paper points out that the so-called “zhan 占” combined by "bu 卜"and “kou 口” in the oracle bone inscriptions of the Yinxu Site is actually not “zhan 占” but should be glossed as“si司”,and the character combined by "bu 卜” and “kou 口” but read as “zhan” appeared much later.“si司” was also usually written in a simplified form “■”;in the same divinatory inscription, the characters “■” and “bu 卜” would be written in different shapes. In addition, in the oracle bone inscriptions, the character “zai在” was probably read as “zai再”.
