It was argued in the literature that the two clauses in a ye -conjunction sentence express events of the same category and the meanings of the two sentences are equally important. However, the observation of such sentences shows that although the two clauses in conjunction express events of the same category, they are not equally important. Such inequality of importance in meaning between the two clauses in a ye -conjunction sentence can be characterized in the framework of the Argumentation Theory, proposed and developed by Ducrot and Anscombre. Specifically, the two clauses in a ye -conjunction sentence do not have the equal argumentative force although they have the same argumentative orientation;the first clause is stronger than the ye -clause in terms of argumentative force. In many such sentences, such inequality can be directly observed in the semantics of the two clauses, but in some cases it cannot be detected without referring to context.
