Objective To investigate the correlation between diabetes mellitus and high intraocular pressure and primary open angle glaucoma. Methods Eighty-six patients who underwent medical treatment in our hospital from September 2017 to September 2018 were enrolled in the study. Patients with normal intraocular pressure were assigned to the control group.Patients with high intraocular pressure and primary open angle glaucoma were included as the study group, the fasting blood glucose, postprandial 2 h blood glucose and glycated hemoglobin levels were compared between the two groups to compare the incidence of diabetes in the patients. Results The fasting blood glucose, postprandial 2 h blood glucose and glycated hemoglobin levels in the study group were significantly higher than those in the control group. There was statistically significant difference between the two groups(P<0.05). The incidence of diabetes in the study group was 13.95%, which was significantly higher than the control group 2.33%. There were statistically significant differences between the two groups(P<0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in gender(6.98% vs 6.98%) between the patients with primary open angle glaucoma(P>0.05). Conclusion Diabetes is one of the important causes of high intraocular pressure and primary open angle glaucoma. It is closely related to high intraocular pressure and primary open angle glaucoma.
