Critical Discourse Analysis on the Orientation and Value of Modality in English Political Interviews

摘要 The paper conducts Critical Discourse Analysis on the use of Modality in political interviews. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether the use of Motlality is driven by the speakers' ideology, and thus helps lo build the power relationships between the two participants. Such a linguistic awareness can inform a capacity to resist and change exploitative and dominating linguistic practices, and it' s an issue of importance to everyone with a concem and interest in the problems of our contemporary society. With such awareness, people can get a more incisive recogni-tion and judgment of the political implications, and correctly acquire new trends in politics and developnient of current affairs.
