Lauren Slater, an American postmodern writer, in her autobiographical novel Lying, reflectively reveals her embarrassing and painful life caused by the illness of epilepsy. Based on the "real person" in life, she creates a "metaphorical truth" which rests in the patient's illness of "epilepsy", in the "taking epilepsy” show and in other faking-illness games. Slater asks the postmodern readers to show concern for the living state of the patient group who are revealed as three Others--the eager Other in illness who needs to be accepted, the inviting Other in shows who needs to be loved and the expecting Other in games who needs to be respected. Slater wishes that the healthy people could accept the identities of the patients as the Other, love and respect the patient group.
