An Informal View of Being: An Interpretation of Stevens’s Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird

美国现实主义诗歌的代表人物华莱士·史蒂文斯的早期作品《看黑鸟的十三种方式》是由十三首短诗构成。学界通常的解释根据标题的字面意思,认为诗歌描写的是观看黑鸟的十三种方式,然而依据作者的“非正式的存在观”,十三种看黑鸟的方式,应该是黑鸟在十三种不同场景中的存在方式。黑鸟在组诗里并不独自存在,而是与其他事物相互关联,与人相互作用。

Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird consists of thirteen short poems, which is created by American realistic poet Wallace Stevens in his early period. The usual interpretation in the academic world is to follow the literal meaning of the title, believing that the poem describes thirteen ways of looking at a blackbird, while according to the author’s “an informal view of being”, thirteen ways of looking at a blackbird should be the way a blackbird exists in thirteen different scenes. The blackbird does not exist alone in the group poems, but is related to other things and interacts with people.
