Jade Snow Wong, known as the "mother of Chinese American literature", has broken the embarrassing situation of collective "silence" of Chinese writers, especially female writers, in American literary world through her autobiographical novel, Fifth Chinese Daughter. Jade Snow, the protagonist, lived in the shadow of racism and patriarchism, and suffered from racial and gender discrimination, but she survived through observation, learning, reflection and epiphany. She finally realized the independence and self-growth of women and successfully constructed the identity of Chinese American women.
