In recent years, the development of sustainable characteristic towns in China has become a matter of high concern. This paper discusses the features, essence, relationship with the experience economy, evaluation index system, profit model, characteristics of land use structure, and other planning and development challenges associated with characteristic towns. The study aims to provide suggestions and serve as a reference for the sustainable and healthy development of characteristic towns in China.
