The St. Paul’s Hostel and its affiliated chapel are one of the protected buildings of the original Cheeloo University’s modern architecture group. Its architectural appearance incorporates both the style of Chinese and the western style, and there are a large number of exquisite brick or stone carvings on its facades, eaves and pillars. The purpose of this paper is to classify the engraving and decoration of the building and the subject matter of engraving. What is more, this paper aims to interpret the meaning of the decoration, which may provide a theoretical basis for the later restoration and protection of the St. Paul’s Hostel.
