Oyster industry has a long history in the Pearl River Delta region. It is one of the traditional aquacultures that rely heavily on natural coastal resources because of the expected changes in salinity, temperature and diversity of natural marine life. In addition to the traditional knowledge of coastal communities inherited over the centuries, oyster aquaculture incorporates long-term socio-economic relations between communities. This article explores the community resilience society after natural and environmental disasters based on the history of farming in Hong Kong and the current state of its community. With the concern on community resilience and the significance of its reconstruction, the article also aims at providing some insights for the aquaculture industry in the coastal areas. In addition to the discussion of local culture and social changes, the author also proposes several foreign related examples as a reference, hoping to enhance the understanding of Hong Kong's coastal communities and their aquaculture resources from the socio-cultural perspective.
