本文所论,一是黄炎培在天津考察教育,会晤严范孙、张伯苓的情况。二是黄炎培应张伯苓邀请,来津演讲《在美国调查学务之状况》,使天津教育界从中吸取有益的教育教学经验,促进了天津教育的发展。三是黄炎培在张彭春陪同下调研南开学校及其他学校,为此撰写《三中学加设职业科之调查》,并发表于《教育与职业》月刊,对推广职业教育于全国有重要意义。四是黄炎培于1922年到1933年间多次往返津门,每次来津必会晤张伯苓,时刻关注教育事业的发展。五是张伯苓致黄任之函,介绍南开大学面临的问题。六是1937年7月31日,黄炎培在天津《大公报》发表《吊南开大学并急告教育当局》一文,用事实控诉日本侵略军轰炸南开大学的罪恶行径。七是黄炎培视察天津水灾过访南开大学的情况。

This article has seven parts. First, it describes the meetings of Huang Yanpei with Yan Fansun and Zhang Boling during Huang’s educational inspection in Tianjin. This was Huang Yanpei’s early contact with Yan Fansun and Zhang Boling. Second, invited by Zhang Boling, Huang Yanpei gave a speech of“Survey on Academic Affairs in the United States”, enabling Tianjin education circle to draw useful teaching experience and to promote the educational development in Tianjin. Third, accompanied by Zhang Pengchun, Huang Yanpei investigated Nankai Schools and other schools, which led to his “Survey on Offering Vocational Disciplines in Three Middle Schools” in the second issue of monthly Education and Occupation. It had a great significance to the promotion of vocational education throughout the country. Fourth, between 1922 and 1933, Huang Yanpei came to Tianjin several times and met with Zhang Boling every time when he came to Tianjin. Huang paid close attention to the development of education for the promotion of the progress of Chinese society. Fifth, Zhang Boling wrote a letter to Huang Yanpei, telling the problems faced by Nankai University. Sixth, at the end of July 1937, the Japanese invaders launched an all-out attack on Tianjin, repeatedly bombing the government buildings of Hebei province and Tianjin city and the campus buildings of Nankai University. Japanese cavalry aggressors drove the trucks loaded with kerosene into the campus of Nankai University and set fire everywhere. At the same time, four Japanese planes dropped firebombs at Nankai Middle School. Nankai University was bombed into ruins. On July 31, Huang Yanpei published an article in Tianjin’s Ta Kung Pao, titled “Condolence for Nankai University and Urgent Appeal to the Education Authorities”, revealing the evil acts of the invading Japanese army’s bombing at Nankai University with facts. Seventh, Huang Yanpei inspected Nankai University upon the flood in Tianjin.
