On Attention of the Missionaries to Fujian Tea in the Late Qing Dynasty and Its Influence

晚清时期,西方传教士对福建茶叶给予诸多关注。传教士在闽传教期间所著的大量文章、日记、信件中,都有透露出与茶叶的相关消息。传教士对福建茶叶的关注及其记述,对中国来说,对福建地方史研究提供了重要的佐证资料和文献补充;对再现与探寻晚清福建茶叶贸易发展轨迹颇有裨益。对西方世界而言,一方面促进了西方对福建茶叶的了解,获得了福建茶叶的相关资讯;另一方面也为当时殖民者提供重要的商业信息。

In the late Qing Dynasty, Western missionaries paid much attention to Fujian tea, which can be found from a large number of articles, diaries and letters written by them during their preaching period in Fujian Province. And the missionaries’ attention to Fujian tea and the descriptions provided important supporting materials and literature supplement for China to study Fujian’s local history, which are of great benefit to reproduce and explore the development track of tea trade in Fujian Province in recent years. For the western world, on the one hand, it promoted the westerners’ understanding of Fujian tea and obtained the relevant information of Fujian tea;on the other hand, it also provided important business information for colonists.
