Agricultural Development of Liangsong Region during Spring and Autumn Period and Warring States Period

春秋战国时期社会发展快速,争霸兼并战争频发,各国大力鼓励、奖励人口增长,此时的人口数量大大增加。梁宋地区优越的自然地理环境和社会条件加之悠久的农耕基础,使得此地农业在耕作技术、作物种类、水利灌溉等方面都有了较快发展,且带动了耕种面积的扩大、精耕细作方式的发展和单位面积产量的提高,推动了小农经济的发展。农业生产虽受自然灾害、战争和传统思想等因素的限制,但整体上呈快速上升趋势。

During the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, society developed rapidly, and wars for hegemony were frequent. All states spared no effort to encourage and reward breeding, so population size greatly increased. In the Liangsong region, because of its superior geographical environment and social conditions and long history of agricultural production, agriculture developed fast, especially in farming technique, crop varieties, water conservancy irrigation and other aspects, which further promoted the expansion of cultivated area, progress of intensive cultivation, increase of output per unit area, and development of smallscale peasant economy. Although restricted by natural disasters, wars and traditional thinking, the overall agricultural production was on the rise during the two periods.
