An Analysis of President Trump’s Tweets Based on Culpeper’s Impoliteness Model

不礼貌是对具体语境下特定行为的消极态度,不礼貌策略则是不礼貌输出类型的体现。本文从语用学的角度,结合Culpeper的不礼貌理论和Mey的语用行为理论,分析了美国现任总统特朗普的推文中不礼貌策略的使用。研究结果显示,特朗普在推文中使用了除抑制礼貌策略之外的多种不礼貌策略,尤其是积极不礼貌策略,在解释特朗普个人行为和强调其政治观点的同时,还达到了提醒、警告民众、谴责、批评、嘲讽政治对手等语用效果。

Impoliteness is a negative attitude towards a specific behavior in some specific context,and the impoliteness strategy is the concrete embodiment of the output strategy. From the perspective of pragmatics, under the guidance of Culpeper's impoliteness theory and Mey's pragmatic behavior theory, this paper investigates the use of impoliteness strategies in President Trump's tweets. The research findings suggest that various impoliteness strategies except withhold politeness are employed in Trump’s tweets, especial positive impoliteness. These impoliteness strategies are used to explain individual behavior and emphasize personal political views. The pragmatic effects of reminding or warning the public, condemning, criticizing or taunting his political opponents are achieved.
