Cold Atoms Identified as Inflows Fueling Quasar Black Hole Accretion Disks

摘要 A group of scientists reported in Nature their latest discovery of a large amount of hydrogen and helium gases on the outer brim of the accretion disks surrounding the central supermassive black holes in a sample of quasars. Their strongly redshifted and broadened absorption lines indicate that they are moving at freefall-like speeds and hence deemed prey of the mighty gravitation of the supermassive black holes.
