Protect Human Dignity: An Interpretation of Bajin’s First Short Story Collection Revenge

巴金在其短篇小说集《复仇》中,对于暴力惩治、战争有着辩难和质疑,体现对生命的悲悯,以及在激进主义下保持的理性。这种理性,与其对乌托邦倾向的警觉密不可分。巴金也有过乌托邦理想主义,但是其凭借着自省意识,尤其是忏悔精神,在作品中对乌托邦倾向作出消解。《复仇》集里有关爱情的书写,呈现一种"去浪漫"的特征,这既体现巴金在爱情题材书写的独特性,也体现巴金通过质疑性思考达到救赎主题表达的目的。尽管《复仇》集里有的小说显得意蕴杂驳,但这些意蕴总归来说都源于一点,即巴金对人性尊严的始终关注,巴金对五四新文学的人道主义传统的承续。

In the short story collection Revenge, Bajin argued against and questioned violence punishment and war, showing his compassion for life and his rationality under the radicalism. His rationality was inseparable from his vigilance against Utopia tendencies, which he had held but dispelled in his works with his introspection and especially the spirit of confession. The writing of love in the short story collection Revenge features “romance removal”. This not only reflects the uniqueness of Bajin’s writing on the subject of love, but also reflects the purpose of Bajin’s expression of redemption through questioning and introspection. Although the implications of some short stories in the collection Revenge seem to be complex, but they always come from Bajin’s attention to human dignity and inheritance of the humanitarian tradition of the May Fourth New Literature.
