An Analysis of Xi Jinping’s Statement on the Consciousness of the National Community: Shaping the Chinese National Consciousness from the Global Perspective

党的十八大以来,习近平总书记提出“积极培养中华民族共同体意识”的要求,这是新的历史条件下的一项重大任务。文章认为,全球化在一定程度上打破了各民族国家之间经济、社会和文化的“樊篱”,世界各国已经形成了你中有我,我中有你的人类命运共同体。同时也出现了认同的“同质化”和“混合化”代替和冲淡民族认同的声音,使民族意识面临着被消解的挑战。不过,民族认同在全球化时代仍然有很强的生命力,我们应当也完全可以铸牢中华民族共同体意识,培育中华民族的精神家园。

Xi Jinping requires that the Chinese nation’s consciousness of community be cultivated, which is a major task under the new historical conditions. Globalization removes the economic, social and cultural barriers between nations to a certain extent. All countries have formed a human community with shared future. In addition, there has been a voice that "homogenization" and "mixing" of identity replace and dilute national identity, which makes the national consciousness face the danger of being dissolved. However, national identity is still full of vitality in the era of globalization. We should and can fully cultivate the consciousness and sense of belonging of the Chinese nation.
