Historical Evolution and Contemporary Enlightenment of Mao Zedong’s Thought on Modernization

毛泽东的现代化思想在不同历史时期有不同的理论形态。从五四运动起,开始确立“以工立国”的现代化发展思路;新民主主义革命时期,建立工业化的新民主主义国家是其国家工业化思想的主要内涵;新中国成立至三大改造之时,从“以苏为师”向“以苏为鉴”的转变,毛泽东开始思考中国特色的社会主义工业化道路,“一化三改”和“赶超战略”为这一阶段的核心要义;社会主义制度建立起来之后,毛泽东的现代化思想开始纵深推进,“四个现代化”和“两步走”发展战略标志着社会主义现代化思想的形成。

Mao Zedong’s thought on modernization has different theoretical forms in different historical periods. From the beginning of the May 4th Movement, the modern development idea of “Taking Industry as Country’s Base”was established. The establishment of the new democratic state of industrialization was the main connotation of his country’s industrialization thought during the period of the New Democratic Revolution. The transformation from“Copying the Soviet Model”to“Using the Experience of the Soviet Union”was established since the founding of PRC to “Three Reformations”period. Mao Zedong began to think about the socialist industrialization road with Chinese characteristics at that time, and“One Transformation and Three Transformations”and“Catch-up Strategy” as the core of this stage. After the establishment of the socialist system, Mao Zedong’s thought on modernization began to advance in depth,“The Four Modernizations”and“Two-steps”development strategy marked the formation of socialist modernization thought.
